108 Enlightenment Malas
108 Enlightenment Malas
Malas are a string of beads, usually 108, made from wood, stone, seed, bone, or crystal. For thousands of years, Malas have been used in the practice of mantra meditation by Hindus and Buddhists, and in a similar way by Christians with the rosary. Moving your fingers to the next bead at the end of each mantra allows the mind to stay focused on the mantra rather than counting the repetitions. A mantra could be a single word, like OM, or a sacred phrase, or the name of a diety. The number 108 is sacred in many Spiritual traditions for various symbolic reasons.
The 108 Enlightenment Malas Collection is centered around the Sri Maha Bodhi seed malas that David Browning SamadhiDev brought back from Bodh Gaya, India.
The seeds in these malas were collected from the revered Sri Maha Bodhi tree that stands in the midst of the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, and is considered the most important of the Buddhist pilgramage sites. The Sri Maha Bodhi tree, planted in 288 BC, is a direct descendant of the original tree under which Siddhartha Guatama received his enlightenment 2500 years ago, becoming The Buddha. These Bodhi seed malas received a hands-on blessing from His Holiness the Dalai Lama while in Sarnath India, on January 14, 2011; and the malas have received multiple empowerments from His Holiness, including: Avalokiteshvara, White Tara, 21 Tara, Yamantaka, and his teachings of Nargarjuna.
Each of our numbered Enlightenment Malas have one of these special Sri Maha Bodhi seeds integrated as the Guru (center) bead. There will be 108 Enlightenment Malas in our original collection. Also included with each Enlightenment Mala will be a certificate of authenticity, and a Maha Mantra based on principles "Beyond Enlightenment".
These 108 Malas are being offered as a fund raiser for the Samadhi Retreat, which is a beautiful 65 acre wooded Meditation Retreat deep in the Piney Woods of Texas. We are expanding our facilities, building cabins for full time and part time residence on the property, repairing some intrastructure, and anticipating fulfilling the mortgage.
A small and limited number of the malas created for the 108 Enlightenment Malas Collection also have individual wood beads from 3 Malas that have also received a hands-on blessing by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. These beads have been creatively intermingled with semi-precious stones to produce stunning patterns for these individualized works of art.
We are currently running an Indiegogo Campaign... For giant selection of Malas, please check out our Fundraising Campaign at Indiegogo.
